Design and Build Quality: High-Quality and Durable
Right from the first glance, the Bose SoundLink Max gives the impression of being high-quality and robust. The enclosure feels solidly built and is designed for portable use.
I was particularly impressed by the carrying handle. It’s not just a cosmetic detail—it makes transporting the speaker much more convenient. A practical carrying option is especially important for a speaker of this size and weight class.
In my review, the build quality and design category scores 8 out of 10 points. The speaker makes a very good impression and feels high-quality overall.
Sound Quality: Powerful and Pleasantly Harmonious
For me, sound quality is one of the Bose SoundLink Max’s greatest strengths.
The speaker delivers a powerful, clear, and pleasantly balanced sound. I particularly appreciate that the sound isn’t just geared toward maximizing bass. Vocals and instruments also come through convincingly.
What I particularly like in practical testing is the harmonious overall sound. The sound feels pleasantly smooth and doesn’t become unpleasant or straining even during extended use.
Even at higher volumes, the sound remains impressive in my opinion. The bass is powerful and punchy without the sound losing its pleasant character.
For me, the SoundLink Max is therefore a speaker that impresses not only with its power but also with its sound tuning.
Rating: 9/10 points
Bass and Volume: Solid Punch
Anyone looking for a Bluetooth speaker with powerful bass should be satisfied with the Bose SoundLink Max.
The bass is clearly audible and gives the music plenty of punch. At the same time, the sound remains pleasant. Even at higher volumes, I find the bass to be good and impressive.
The volume offers plenty of headroom for an immersive listening experience. I especially like that the speaker doesn’t come across as unpleasantly intrusive.
Rating: 10/10 points
Battery life: Up to 20 hours, according to Bose
Bose specifies a battery life of up to 20 hours for the SoundLink Max. That’s an attractive figure for a portable speaker in this performance class.
During my testing so far, I first fully charged the speaker. However, I haven’t yet been able to conduct my own meaningful battery life test.
That’s why I’m deliberately distinguishing here between the manufacturer’s specification and my personal hands-on experience. The 20 hours is not a measurement I’ve confirmed myself.
The power bank function via USB-C is also available. However, I haven’t tried it out myself yet.
Rating: 10/10 points—preliminary personal assessment, not yet based on my own battery life measurement.
Usability and the Bose App: Very easy to control
The Bose SoundLink Max also performs well in terms of usability.
The controls on the device are easily accessible and straightforward to use. I also really like the Bose app.
My impression: The app is very easy to navigate and makes operating the speaker a pleasure.
Especially with a high-quality Bluetooth speaker, a functional and easy-to-use app is an important part of the overall experience.
Rating: 10/10 points
Connectivity and Ports
In my hands-on test, the Bluetooth connection worked reliably and without any issues. Charging via USB-C also works flawlessly.
In addition to USB-C, the speaker has a 3.5-mm AUX input. However, I wasn’t able to test this myself due to a lack of a compatible playback device.
The built-in power bank feature is also handy, though I haven’t tested it in practice yet.
Rating: 9/10 points
Portability and Everyday Usability
At around 2.13 kilograms, the Bose SoundLink Max isn’t a particularly lightweight speaker. However, it features a convenient carrying handle that makes it easier to transport.
According to the manufacturer, its rugged construction and IP67 certification also make it suitable for use in more demanding conditions.
I did not personally test the water and dust resistance during my review. The protection rating is therefore listed as a technical specification provided by the manufacturer and not as my own test result.
Overall, I like the combination of high-quality build and the practical carrying handle.
Rating: 8/10 points
Value for Money
The Bose SoundLink Max falls into the higher-priced category of portable Bluetooth speakers.
In return, you get impressive sound, powerful bass, high-quality build, and convenient operation.
Of course, there are more affordable alternatives. However, if you value sound quality, performance, and build quality, the SoundLink Max offers a very appealing overall package.
I would recommend this speaker despite its higher price.
